Key strategies for building resilience

We are pleased to share with you that next Wednesday, 7th May 2025, the 5th Globeducate British International Schools in Spain Educational Talk will be held, with Pedro García Aguado as guest speaker, and will address the importance of fostering resilience in education to prepare people to successfully face the challenges of the future, during their school life and beyond.

The event, which will last an estimated hour and a half, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Afundación Auditorium, at 8 Rúa Cantón Grande (A Coruña), as our sister school Coruña British International is the organiser of this edition. As in previous years, attendance is free, and it can be followed both in person and online, and in both cases, it is necessary to fill in a form beforehand.

Resilience, which is the ability to adapt and recover in the face of adverse situations, is a central theme in his interventions. García Aguado emphasises that fostering resilience in students is crucial for their integral development. This not only helps them face academic challenges, but also prepares them to handle difficult situations in life. By teaching young people to be resilient, they are provided with tools to overcome obstacles, learn from failures and maintain a positive attitude.

In the educational environment, this translates into creating an environment where students feel safe to express their emotions, make mistakes and learn from them. Resilience not only benefits students in their school life but also provides them with valuable skills that they will carry with them throughout their lives. In his presentations, he highlights the importance of cultivating it in education as a fundamental pillar for training individuals who are strong and capable of facing the challenges of the future.

Resilience in British education

At Globeducate British International Schools, we foster resilience through a variety of strategies and approaches, both in and out of the classroom.

  1. Focus on the ‘Growth Mindset’ encouraging students to see mistakes as learning opportunities and to develop perseverance in the face of challenges.
  2. Social and emotional education, teaching coping skills, emotional regulation and problem solving so that they learn to manage stress and frustration effectively.
  3. Curriculum based on life skills through subjects exclusive to the British system such as PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) addressing topics such as self-esteem, mental health and decision-making.
  4. Extracurricular activities and sports, inviting students to take on challenges, work as a team and overcome defeats in a positive way.
  5. Support for mental health, structured around a solid programme of pastoral care and safeguarding to ensure the well-being of students and the entire school community.
  6. Project-based learning and problem-solving to develop skills of persistence, problem-solving and adapting to difficulties.
  7. Role modelling and support from teachers in which teachers act as role models and foster a culture of support and motivation, celebrating effort and perseverance rather than just academic results.
  8. Focus on reflection and self-regulation to encourage students to reflect on their learning experiences and set goals for improvement, helping them develop a resilient mindset in the face of future challenges.

Together, these approaches seek to prepare students not only for academic challenges, but also to face life with a resilient and positive mindset.
