Globeducate MUN 2025: Fostering Peace through Sustainable and Inclusive Development

  • News

Cambridge House British International School is hosting this year's Globeducate MUN, a United Nations simulation event in which 140 students will participate.

One of the most popular and exciting events on the Globeducate Events calendar takes place between 11th and 14th March 2025 - the Globeducate MUN, hosted this year by Cambridge House British International School in Valencia, Spain.

This year´s event will bring more than 140 students together from 22 schools, representing 40 nationalities and from countries across the world from Canada and Portugal to Italy and Cyprus.

The event creates a unique space for young people to apply their research, teamwork, communication and public speaking skills, while addressing crucial issues in various committees. The Globeducate MUN is a unique opportunity for students to simulate the workings of the United Nations and demonstrate their debate skills, while learning about the most relevant problems faced by our international community. This event represents an excellent opportunity for young people to get involved in the search for solutions to the global challenges we face.

During this international event, students will put themselves in the shoes of United Nations delegates and debate current global issues crucial for peace and sustainable development in the 21st Century, organised into different committees:

·       Disarmament Committee: regulation of the sale of new military technologies, including artificial intelligence, and ethics in space defence.

·       General Assembly: resolution of territorial disputes, such as those in the South China Sea, and the challenges of mass migration in a globalised world.

·       Environmental Commission: overcoming dependence on fossil fuels and addressing the exploitation of rare earth resources in less developed countries.

·       Economic and Social Council: harnessing technology to improve education and develop sustainable solutions to address the impact of debt on vulnerable economies.

·       Security Council: resolving conflicts such as Kosovo and the war between Russia and Ukraine, seeking a lasting and sustainable resolution.

·       Commission on Human Rights: protecting the rights of refugees and migrants and ensuring equitable access to life-saving vaccines.

Adam Hassoun, Head of School at Cambridge British International School, said: “On behalf of the entire school community, we are eager to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to the students and teachers joining us for this prestigious event. This year’s conference, centred around the theme 'Fostering Peace through Sustainable and Inclusive Development,' will present a thought-provoking challenge for the 140 students participating. As they work towards finding resolutions, they will be tasked with exploring innovative solutions that not only drive economic growth but also safeguard human rights and protect our planet for future generations. This challenge will showcase the critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that we nurture in all Globeducate schools from an early age."

Oanh Crouch, Globeducate Education Director with responsibility for the Globeduate British International Schools (GBIS) cluster said: It is a thrill to be providing an international opportunity for our diverse and dedicated young leaders to gather and engage in diplomacy, debate, and collaboration on some of the most pressing global issues.  I encourage our MUN delegates to connect with their Globeducate peers from different countries and cultures, to challenge ideas, exchange perspectives, and work toward solutions that reflect the very essence of the United Nations—peace, dialogue, and progress.  It will be these experiences which will not only shape their understanding of global issues but also equip them with the skills and confidence to be the leaders of tomorrow.”

Lucía, Year 13 student from Cambridge House British International School, said: “Participating in Globeducate MUN 2025 will leave an important mark on all of those participating. It will allow us to reflect on the way we perceive the world, developing a commitment to peace, social justice and respect for the environment, helping us to become global citizens capable of changing the world. I am looking forward to this for many months!
